Ever since I was a little kid, my favourite colour is purple. And now I love how the purple flowers I buy for myself stand out in my home.

When I was 15 I started my first job working at a flower shop. It gave me so much joy! I stuck around at the flower shop for over 8 years. It gave me the opportunity to learn all about the different flowers. These are 10 of my favorite purple flowers that I buy (or get) and enjoy regularly, still to this day.

Allium

Allium, with its globe-shaped clusters of tiny, star-like flowers, is a striking addition to any garden. Known for its tall, sturdy stems and showy blooms, Allium creates a dramatic impact, especially when planted in groups. Their round, purple flower heads are like fireworks in full bloom, adding a whimsical touch to flower beds or as a focal point in floral arrangements. They’re also great for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Clematis

Clematis is one of the most versatile climbing vines, producing a range of flower types, including stunning purple varieties. These flowers have a unique structure, with their petal-like sepals adding layers of beauty. Clematis ‘The President’ or ‘Jackmanii’ in deep purple hues are especially striking, making them perfect for trellises, fences, or as a backdrop for other flowers. The sprawling vines can create a lush, vibrant display throughout the growing season. Very nice on its own, but also a great filler flower in a bouquet.

Eustoma

Also known as Lisianthus, Eustoma is an elegant and refined flower that resembles a delicate rose but with a unique twist. Its soft, ruffled petals in shades of purple, lavender, and violet bring a sense of calm to the garden. Eustoma flowers are great for floral arrangements, but they also make a graceful addition to outdoor borders or container gardens. Their long-lasting blooms make them a favorite for those who want to enjoy their beauty well into the summer.

Delphinium

Delphiniums are the epitome of tall, majestic flowers. With their towering spikes of purple blooms, they are often the centerpiece of a garden bed. Delphinium flowers are available in various shades of purple, from soft lavenders to deeper, more intense purples. These flowers thrive in full sun and bring a regal, almost stately, feel to any garden. They also attract pollinators, making them an excellent choice for a garden that fosters wildlife.

Iris

Iris flowers are timeless and offer a variety of purple shades, from pale lavender to vibrant violet. Their intricate, frilled petals and distinct, sword-shaped foliage make them stand out in any garden. Purple irises, such as ‘Superstition’ or ‘Immortality,’ can be planted in groups to create stunning focal points or used as accents in more wildflower-inspired landscapes. They are easy to care for and will reward you with beautiful blooms year after year.

The Memory Lane rose is an enchanting variety of purple rose that combines a delicate lavender hue with the classic beauty of a rose. With its soft, fragrant blossoms and elegant form, this rose adds an air of nostalgia to any garden. It is a perfect choice for a romantic garden or to accent a flower bed with its subtle color. The Memory Lane rose is also a great flower for cutting, making it a popular choice for bouquets.

Hydrangea

Hydrangeas, especially the purple varieties like ‘Endless Summer’ or ‘Blushing Bride,’ are a must-have for those who love large, showy blooms. Their iconic round clusters of florets come in shades of lavender, violet, and soft purple, transforming your garden into a relaxing sanctuary. Hydrangeas are known for their ability to thrive in both sun and partial shade, and they are relatively low-maintenance, making them a favorite for both novice and experienced gardeners.

Sweet pea

The smell alone made me fall in love with these flowers! Sweet peas are often associated with nostalgic charm and old-fashioned gardens, and their purple blooms are no exception. With their sweet fragrance and delicate petals, purple sweet peas create a sense of joy and lightness in the garden. These climbing vines are perfect for trellises, fences, or arbors, where their vibrant, purple blossoms can spill over to create a cascading effect. They also make lovely cut flowers for bouquets, bringing a touch of spring into your home.

Agapanthus

Agapanthus, or Lily of the Nile, is a dramatic flower that makes a bold statement with its tall, tubular flowers that cluster in spherical heads. While it is commonly found in shades of blue, purple varieties like ‘Midnight Star’ offer an intense color that adds sophistication to any garden. Agapanthus blooms in summer and prefers sunny, well-drained conditions. It’s perfect for borders, containers, or as a focal point in a water feature garden.

Purple is often regarded as a color of luxury and mystery. It’s associated with creativity, spirituality, and tranquility, and when incorporated into a garden, it can create a calming, yet dynamic, environment.
